2 days ago my laptop over sudden started lagging, I was not able to even browse chrome. I found out that my CPU speed was stuck at 0.79 ghz, I fix that and laptop works a little bit faster but still no even close to what it was before. My games are playing on 10-20 fps. Laptop feels right now like it's not plugged in even tho my battery it's always at 100%.

Hello. Lenovo Legion y540 17IRH-PG0. I have been using this laptop for almost 2 years now.

Well this could be do to a few things. For example:

1. Your laptop may need a new fresh install of Windows, two years of use is a long time if you never did this. (If you go this way, make sure you first backup (in the cloud and/or external hardrive) every file that matters to you. And if you don't want to get the factory restore image, you can donwload Windows from: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10, and then click on "Download tool now", you will need an empty usb drive.

2. Your laptop may be dirty, not allowing the heatsink and cooler to work properly.

3. Besides #2, you may be in need of new thermal...

Hello, please post your laptop brand and model, there should be a tag/label on the base with this info.

Also how old is this laptop, how long have you been using it?

4. Perhaps some virus/malware/bloatware got inside your system. Im nto sure this is the case, but who knows. (This shoudl be fix if someone install a brand new copy of Windows).

This is only what comes to my mind right now, and without been able to get in touch with the device.

Run ThrottleStop 9.4 and post some screenshots while your CPU is throttling.

Open the Limits Reasons window and see if any of these are being triggered and lighting up in red.

These throttling issues are common in laptops and reinstalling Windows rarely fixes these problems.
