So two days ago I replaced the thermal grease on my laptop ( i5 8250U, Radeon 540). I made sure to apply the right amount considering the chip size and I reattached the cooler cautiously to make sure there is even spread (I actually saw the spread because I tried reapplying today already and it looked good). I was using it heavily yesterday (playing games, watching full hd movies) and had no thermal issues at all. I installed the April updates in the evening before I went to sleep, and today my computer is running hot (high 50s-low 60s idleing with the fan around full speed by the sound). I considered reinstalling windows or trying a linux live cd to check if it will run hot but I decided to make a post here before it first. Anyone?

Okay I made a rookie mistake and didn't bother checking task manager. Turns out the crappily written radeon display drivers like to use like 35% cpu just because. Killed it, gpu still working, computer temps now fine.
