So earlier today my girlfriend was using one of my older laptops, when all of a sudden the "i" key stared putting "+i", the t-u key stop working, and other keys started malfunctioning as well.

Backspace worked for a short moment, shift stopped working. She hasn't downloaded anything, as I setup the computer for her, and I made sure everything I had was clean.

I am currently doing a fresh install of Windows 8 onto it, and even during the setup it's doing it. Any ideas/help? I want the easiest/cheapest to the hardest/expensive. I want going to a computer hardware store to be my last option.

Thank you! <3

Solution
During the setup, does it give you the option to select the "language and/or region"? Set it to US and see if that helps

Otherwise, your best option is to take it into a shop
Hey there,

Did you try unplugging the keyboard and plugging it back in? Or turning off your numlock key? Laptops have an fn button and the numlock key should be at the top of your keyboard. Try turning off the numlock, hopefully that makes a difference

If it costs too much to fix, you could "try" using a usb keyboard temporarily. (It can be quite expensive to get to a laptop keyboard since the repairman would have to take apart 75% of that laptop just to get to it)

It's a laptop so I can't unplug it, even though that may do it.

I've pressed the FN, Numberlock, FN+Numberlock, and none have worked.

I just want this fixed cause my girlfriend uses it for school, and a usb keyboard won't do right now/:

Have you ever caught her doing her nails on or around the computer? If so, you might have severe internal damage due to acetone and other dangerous chemicals girls love to "play" with.

She would always do it away from the computer
