Laptop Screen Upgrade

Hello,

My son accidentally cracked his LCD laptop display and I have been researching how to replace it. I don't have a problem with making the replacement myself, but after I took the screen out, I noticed that it was a 1600x900 res screen, and we were expecting to find a 1920x1080 res screen instead. Now (of course) my son wants a 1920x1080 res screen upgrade.

My research shows that a screen upgrade is not as simple as just replacing the screen with another screen that is the same size. Apparently, you must also take into account whether the graphics card and video cable will support the upgrade as well. As best as I can tell, the current graphics card is sufficient, but I’m not so sure about the video cable.

I have read that it possibly takes different cables to support a 1920x1080 screen vs. a 1600x900 screen. I have also been told that a FHD screen uses a dual channel cable, but a HD+ screen uses a single channel cable. I’m not sure what kind of cable I have, especially when it comes to channels. The only thing I know for sure, is that the current cable did work with the 1600x900 screen.

I have chatted with ASUS tech support, and they asked me for the SN of this machine. Strangely enough, it looks like the SN has been removed! This laptop was bought as a refurb from NewEgg.com, so I’m not sure what has been done to it. Unfortunately, my son has lost the invoice, and we have thrown away the box the laptop came in. So the tech was not able to determine the screen that this machine originally came with and the other specs.

Are you able to determine, based off of the info that I have provided below, if we would be able to successfully upgrade from the current screen to the desired one?

I believe you can but you need the part number for the upgraded screen which is KXC1B0215G20265.
