Hello,
My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5534-5950 with a AMD Athlon 1.6 GHz processor. Oh wait! No, it's a AMD Phenom 2 duel core 2.8 GHz processor now! Only one problem with it, the screen doesn't turn on when I press the power button. I switched back to the other processor and it worked fine, so I don't understand why my system doesn't turn on. Any ideas?

Well just because the CPU fits in the socket does not mean it is guaranteed to work.

If the BIOS does not recognize the new CPU, then it will not book. Your only hope is if Acer released a new BIOS for your laptop that will allow it to recognize the new CPU. Doubtful, but you got nothing else to loose by checking.

This easy. The board doesn't support the processor. Don't know where you got the idea that would work. That is a socket s1 board.

Socket S1 comes in different generations. They don't go to the same lengths do distinguish them like desktops because DIY is all but non-existent on mobile.

And yes, the bios would be an issue too, but Im not sure they are even hardware compatible.

Shouldn't hurt to try the newer bios, but I'm not optimistic at all.
