I recently decided to upgrade my HP 2000-2b29WM Notebook PC

I checked the Service Manual before ordering

I upgraded from an Intel Pentium B960 2.20-GHz processor to an IntelCore i5 3230M 2.60-GHz processor

Specs:
B960 2.20-GHz processor (2.0-MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W)
3230M 2.60-GHz processor (3.0-MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W)

I applied the thermal paste as suggested with the proper techniques, and the laptop is running noticeably cooler than before.

The problem, however, is that after 30 minutes, the computer automatically shuts down. :/

Your laptop is running on the HM70 chipset. Unfortunately, the chipset is limited to celerons/ pentium cpus only, running on other cpus like i3/i5/i7 will cause the 30min shutdown problem. So.. you're out of luck
