I have an old Dell inspiron n4050 that I recently decided to put up to use again. it was working when I left it home, about 5 months ago. I have a SSD with UEFI windows in it, but since the laptop is old and doesn't support UEFI boot manager, it won't boot my windows (which is to be expected). There is also another HDD with some known bad blocks, out of 1TB I can use about 400 gigs before it starts corrupting. Both SSD and HDD show up normally on bios.
Now, since I can't boot windows to retrieve my data, I got hirens on a flash drive and attempted booting through it. It all goes rather smooth, until it starts loading the installer modules for LAN and other functions, then the computer shuts down. killing the process on the task manager makes it take a couple seconds longer to shut down, but even then i still have about only 30 seconds to do whatever I need to do, which obviously isn't enough time. I need to know what's making windowsPE shut down so I can retrieve my data? I have tried using different USB ports, with basically no difference between results.
