So I have a sony vaio and the part that I plug the charger into broke so I took the laptop apart and put the new part (ordered off ebay) in. I put it back together and the intial problem is solved but now the laptop shuts off within 5 minutes of use. HELP!?

OK. This can be caused by a few different issues.

1. Overheating. If the System detects that the CPU temp is going beyond its set max temprange then the system will automatically shut down the computer. Thisis comonly caused by thefan assembly not removing the heat from the heatsink over the CPU. Get yourself a can of compressed air form Dick Smith or Jaycar and, with the computer turned off, blow out thefan ports in the side and back of the laptop.

2. The other common overheating issue is caused by the batter being constantly charged while installed in the laptop. Remove the battery and plug in the AC adapter and usethe laptop. If it still shuts down then you have hardware problems.

3. Power supply issues. You could have a faulty power AC adapter. Haveit checked by a reputable laptop repair store.

4. Motherboard failure. You cant test this issue without having another motherboard to swap out yours with.

Could there be something loose inside that I may have hit trying to put it back together?

I suggest shutting itdown, removing the battery and the adapter, pressing the power button to completely remove any remaining traces of power, then insert the battery and adapter (if you use it that way) and turn it back on, let it boot up.
How does it turn off on it's own, does windows get forced to shut down, or doesthe laptop shut completely off without warning (as if you took out the battery)? If so, all you need is a new battery, if it blacks out on you.

It shuts down like I removed the battery but with the battery and the power cord still plugged in.
