Laptop specs met for games but games are still lagging

my laptop is a Compaq presario CQ60-410US. Its a old laptop probably around six seven years but it works fine. Because its old, I don't play the newer total war games like Attila or Rome 2, I play medieval 2 and empire. Right now Medieval 2 and Star wars the empire strikes back is on it. When I play both games it can get pretty laggy. Medieval lags a lot more then star wars and sometimes I can't even play medieval because the lag is so bad. It says the requirements are all met but it still lags. I don't know what todo. Maybe get better parts or I'm just doing something wrong. please help.

The laptop's screen resolution is higher than what both games list for the minimum, and your system isn't much better than the minimum requirements overall; running the game on a higher resolution with just a cut above the bare minimum could be why you're seeing lag.

Are you able to adjust the graphics settings in the games? Can you turn them down any further?

I can but it still lags a little bit. Is there anything I can get or replace on this computer to make it better? I really don't want to get another laptop because I got this one for free. I would rather look at every outcome first but if I have to get a new one I will try.

You might be able to upgrade the processor; the socket in this computer should support up to a Core 2 Duo T9900. What I don't know is whether the computer's BIOS will support the upgrade or not. Other than that, you can upgrade your HDD and possibly add RAM.

Have you thought about selling this laptop and using the money from it towards something a little more powerful? Since you got it for free, at least you wouldn't be losing money on this computer if you did so.
