My old laptop is a Lenovo ideapad 100 (with windows 10) but just lately when I shut it down a message says Preparing to configure windows. Please don't turn off computer. The problem is it's just stuck at this configuring stage. I leave it for ages and in the end I have to turn the laptop off. When I turn it back on the next day a message says configuring windows update. 35% complete. It's been 35% complete for a few weeks now. Is there anything I can do to help it complete configuring? Thanks.

I suspect some sort of OS corruption is in play, possibly as the result of an issue with the storage device. Does your Lenovo have a HDD or SSD?

Have you tried forcing into Safe Mode to see if it will boot?

It's HDD. I 've never used safe mode before. I'll give it a go. Thanks.

I'm not able to access safe mode for some reason. When I start the computer the blue screen immediately appears saying configuring windows update. This message eventually disappears and I can get online. When I log off I pressed shift and restart together but all I get is the blue screen saying windows configuring. It's stuck on 35% completed. Any ideas how I can solve this? Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. I'm still able to use the laptop but the configuring is still stuck on 35%. There isn't a lot on my hard drive but the laptop is maybe 7 years old. I haven't done a system restore for years but if I did, would this happen again I wonder? I have started to get a message now and again about moving on from windows10 to 11. I'll have to find out if the Lenovo ideapad 100 is compatible. What do you think? Thanks
