Laptop suddenly slow after using, not overheating

(This could be a double post, since my previous one disappeared)

Hey Guys,

Two days ago I bought a laptop with these specs:

Processor: Intel Core i7-6500U
Graphics: GeForce 940MX (2gb)
Ram: 12GB

After playing a game for a while today (Planet Coaster fyi) it suddenly started lagging very badly. At first I was able to play it normally, but when it started lagging it was almost impossible to open the menu and save the game. After I closed the game, I noticed that Windows was also a bit slower.

At first I thought of overheating, but after installing multiple programs such as SpeedFan and HWMonitor, I found out the temperature was pretty normal (around 50 degrees celcius).

Does anyone know what's going on? I've updated all my drivers and really can't seem to find the cause.

Short update: turning my laptop off for about 10 mins does seem to fix it, but only for a while. Laptop slows down again after about 2 hrs of usage.

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help.
- First, do a complete virus/malware scan just to be sure it's free from infections. Please use the link below.

- Once done, do a clean install of the graphics driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Nvidia graphics driver.
- Next is to open Programs and Features then uninstall anything related to Nvidia.
- Once done, download and install the latest driver .
- Here's the link: nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx
- Reboot the laptop once the latest driver has been installed.
- Do set Nvidia as the default GPU as well.

Hey Laptop_Nerd,

First of all, thanks for the answer. After browsing the forum yesterday, I noticed this fix elsewhere and tried it. It didn't work unfortunately. This morning, I recovered my laptop to factory settings. It did work for a short while, but then it just started lagging again. Now I'm scared I fried my laptop even though it didn't even reach high temperatures.

first do disk clean up (select all option including system files { box... bottom left } ) and system defragment.... try installing all the games and those huge softwares in some other drives.. try to keep ur C drive as much as clean in can be... also disable all the startups... it should be in ur task manager if u are using win10... and also check for virus...
i guess these should do the tricks..

still same issues then its bcoz ur lap is overheating... open it up and clean the vents... and it should be fine..
