Laptop Support for randomly powering off.

So my laptop is randomly turning off even when I am just surfing the internet. Now the psu box that links the lappy to the wall is pretty beat up as in one side the wires are actually exposed but if it isn't the psu is it possable main hardrive failure can cause random shut downs.?

Hard Drive Failure would not shut down the computer it will just get stuck until reboot, my best bet would be CPU or RAM, can you check the CPU temperature?

Does the battery still work ok? If it's a faulty battery and the power adapter is not functioning properly, it can cause it to suddenly shut off.
