Hi,

I had a ASUS K55A laptop which died (board died) and I pulled out the i5 3210M processor out of it along with RAM, DVD writer, disk and Wireless Card.

Now want to know if I can just buy any laptop motherboard which can have this processor and somehow make a case using acrylic sheet or wood to hold the motherboard and use it as a desktop processor.

I saw couple of motherboards on ebay but not sure which one will be compatible with my processor plus also I want to know that how can i handle the power supply for that unit? The laptop motherboard doesn't have the on-board power plug, so if i buy a motherboard from ebay, how can i supply the power to that motherboard? And how would I know on which port of motherboard that power connector connects to?

I have seen the similar project on this but the power supply part is still not that much clear to me.

Thanks

You won't be able to just buy a laptop motherboard as they are propietary, and this is why we all just cannot build our own laptops.

You can get a desktop board though, although the options are limited.

If this is your first time trying to do something like this, I would recommend a real desktop power supply, and a real case. Trying to recycle a notebook PSU, and maing your own case from raw materials are serious projects that can significantly add time to this project, and add to the difficulty factor quite a bit, as well as reducing the chance of getting this working.
