Laptop to monitor quality

Ok i have a laptop that only has a VGA port and a monitor that has a HDMI port.
I went ahead and bought a VGA to HDMI but the quality wasnt what i was expecting, the resolution was fine but the text was blurry. Some guy at walmart told me theres no option to make it crystal clear as VGA doesnt produce a super clear image the way HDMI does... so im just wondering, and be straight up, am i SOL?

can you provide detailed model number of your laptop and monitor?

From a technical perspective, VGA is an analog signal, while HDMI is a digital signal (and they're not compatible with each other!)
In order to properly convert the signal, you'd have to use a converter box, such as this:

Apart from that, it's generally recommended to use the monitor's maximal resolution/refresh rate for best results.
