Laptop turned off during update, now is acting extremely strange

So I was updating my XP laptop and it started to freeze(mouse froze, and it became hard to use), so I shut it off. Now when I boot, I load up the login screen OK, but the mouse is frozen(I made sure it was in the way and used the touchpad). The mouse will move to a different place sometimes, but then freezes. Any help? I'll try safe mode

Booting into safe mode... I will run sfc /scannow and chkdsk
