I've been having this problem for a while. but now its getting ridiculous. When ever i do anything that makes he computer work harder (defragmenting, system scans, watching or a video playing a game), basicaly anytime i multi-task my laptop will just shut down enexpedtly.

I first assumed it was because of dust causing the laptop to overheat so i took it apart and suprised to find barely no dust. Cleaned it out anyway and it still happens./

My second assumption was that is was a virus, however every time i tried to do a virus scan or something, my laptop would just shut down . Because of this i just rebooted my laptop and installed a fresh copy of windows. The problem still occurs, but much less now?

I reseached and people said it could be because my charger is broken and causing it to short circuit, so i took the charger out, and started to multi-task and boom, it shuts down on me.

I know have no clue what is wrong with it...

i have been into the event log and there are 2 main events which keep popping up.. first one is "computer shut down expectantly" .... however the second one is the more im more interested in...

it says " The speed of processor 2 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report." there are many of these , ranging from "the speed of processor (0-3).

The event ID is - kernel processor power - id 37

could this be the cause? if not what is the cause????? i need help now please!

laptop specs below:

Samsung RF511 Notebook
6gb DDR3 RAM
Intel i5 2410M processor
Intel HD3000 GRAPHICS

CARRY ON :

i downloaded "HW MONITOR" and both my Cores are running avergly at 60-70 degrees celcius, which seems ridiculous high! And as soon as i open a big program or multitask it goes to 80-90 degrees! this is obviously too high and i feel this is the problem that is turning my laptop off

i have cleaned out the laptop and there was no dust. My fan is working correctly and everything is normal, but it still is shutting down? what is causing these high heats of the CPU and is it the cause of my laptop turning off?

How can i fix this issue?

thanks

That Idle score is high and is around what I would expect for Mid - High range CPU utilisation but 90 Degrees shouldn't alone turn off your comp as it will only send the emergency shutdown signal if it goes between 98 - 105 (Depending on BIOS) and i have exceeded 90 before on my i7, however that was with max utilisation of my GPU and CPU what were you doing when you achieve such a score. Next after it shutdown can you turn it back on again straight away if YES than its doubtful its down to the CPU as it should cool down before it lets you reboot. However the error message seems to point to another cause check you running the latest firmware for your CPU and Bios then check back here.

considering that you have a mobile PC :) the probability that the cpu cooler lost contact to the CPU is higher (bad build from factory and @ a slightly higher shock the cooler got loose). Check it out if it makes good contact. A simple check is to put your hand near the fan when you run the PC, if it blows warm air then you might have a good contact, but if you dont feel anything warm then the cooler its cold and does not make good contact. But this is not 100% sure so, better take the laptop apart and make sure the CPU cooler screws are tight and replace the thermal paste.

Whilst you are checking the heat sink contact double check for fluff. My sister had a Dell laptop which I went to clean out. It looked fairly clean but there was a perfectly camouflaged plug of black fluff sitting there where the fan duct met the copper fins.
