Laptop turns on and off with RAM installed

Hello,

I have a Gateway M-1624 laptop that was working great but unfortunately now it does not. When we turn it on, it turns immediately off, so I did some trial and error and this is what I got.

I took out the RAM to my laptop and it stays on but will not post because the RAM is out.

I tried new RAM, but when the RAM is in, the laptop turns on and off continuously.

So basically, whenever RAM is in the computer, it turns on and off. When RAM is not in the computer it stays on but won't turn the screen on because RAM is not active.

sounds like a shot mobo. bad cap or resistor maybe.

So basically, since the cap and resistor are on the motherboard, think about replacing the motherboard or whole laptop correct?
