laptop upgrade help

My laptop came with factory installed with 6GB ram and Intel Core i5 4200M(2.5GHz) (Lenovo Y510P). I am having some lag/stuttering issues when gaming and was thinking about upgrading to 16gb 2x8GB RAM. Would that be good enough or would i have to upgrade my processor too?

It depends on the games that you're playing. However, most likely, you're at the limits of the integrated graphics of the laptop. Unfortunately, more ram or a better processor is not going to help. You need a desktop or laptop PC that has a separate AMD or Nvidia graphics processor.

More ram will only help smooth out frame stuttering due to the game streaming data into memory if the 6gb won't allow the game to load everything it needs at once. Your average fps won't be any better.

You don't mention the games you are playing so it's impossible to know what your particular needs are.
