Alright so I'm planning to buy a 2nd hand laptop which I'll pay for and also trade in my desktop for it.

The Laptop specs are as follows:

DELL, Alienware M17x - R2 17`` UltraSharp WUXGA (1920x1200) RGBLED Display Laptop

CPU: Intel Core i7-840QM Processor (1.86GHz, 4Core/8Threads, 8M cache)

Memory: 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (2 x 4GB)

Hard disk: 2 x 640GB SATA Hard Drive

Graphic: Dual 1GB GDDR5 ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870

Optical drive: Slot Load Fixed DVD + /-RW Drive

========================================================================

The Desktop specs are as follows:

Processor: AMD Phenom IIx6 1055t
OS: Windows 7 64bit Ultimate
Video Card: Radeon HD 6850
Hard Disk: 1TB
RAM: 4GB

======================================================================
So what do you think? Is it worth it? I'm also throwing in another 350 bucks for it.
Was wondering if I could also connect a 1920x1080 monitor to the laptop and play games from there?
Would it support a 24inch monitor? And around what FPS could a pair of 5870 Crossfires play Skyrim and Battlefield 3 at?

Thanks alot guys!

^+1 build your own pc.

It should have more than enough ways to connect to your monitor, and should have no trouble using it.

You can find a lot of information on crossfired mobility 5870s here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-5870-Crossfire.29486.0.html

-> It's basically a desktop 5770.

It should have no problem playing Skyrim, and BF3 should run well enough (but don't expect magic).

It should be ~1 - 1.5 times the graphical performance of your desktop (based on the shader count / clocks and depending on crossfire scaling per-game).

I can't say much for the heat or noise it will generate (expect a lot), or the battery life and mobility (don't expect much).

I would like to point out that, unless you specifically like the form-factor, you may be better served spending your money on a second 6850.

I guess the laptops overall performances isn't worth the trade? I was thinking of having something that I can play on the monitor and carry it around with me etc.

But I might just sell my currrent desktop for and use a few more bucks for this

This PC only is $2500NZD which is 2,032.93 USD

AMD next-generation CPU "Bulldozer" is coming!

Seems pretty good haha, what do you guys think? Cause I can't be stuffed upgrading my power supply, RAM etc.
I only have 4GB ram, I only get around 35-40 FPS on Medium on BF3 and if i go ultra i get about 13 - 15 FPS.

This thing? http://www.trademe.co.nz/computers/desktops/no-monitor/auction-471172167.htm

I'd imagine that, if you wanted you /could/ build your own for less money.

Also, you would be well-served to go for an intel platform, rather than AMD (it's just better right now).

This should be about your budget, be portable and be able to play any game on top settings for years to come.

Edit: Just noticed you've already got a HDD so you can reuse that to save money. You might be able to reuse your OS if its retail.
You can sell your 6850 for a bit of cash towards the build.
