Recently my laptops wifi connection randomly disconnects, and only happens when I'm not using it for a while and just leave it on. I would just have to quickly disconnect then reconnect to my router to get back on the internet. I tried updating the atheros ar5b97 network adapter twice but both times it would be worse (basically it wouldn't find any routers). I keep my laptop plugged into the charger all the time. It's running Windows 7 64bit. Laptop is Acer Aspire 5552. Does anyone know a way to fix this?

Solution

I have an Acer Aspire M and the same problem. I did all kinds of different things that I found online and the solution so far was doing a PC Refresh you can find this in the same area that you would find system restore.. I...

Yes it's been on Maximum Perofrmance the whole time.

I leaves any files and most all apps, but after I did that I have not been disconnected yet!

Solution
Go into your network settings. Control panel again.. Mouse to the bottom-right, ‘Search’ again. This time type “Control panel” and click the result. From here we want “Network and Internet” and then “Network and Sharing Center” and from there “Change adapter settings” (It’s on the left hand menubar)

Right click your wifi adapter -> click Properties -> click Configure -> click Power Management

Uncheck the box “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”. That should do the job.

BEAUTIFUL. Brand new Acer Aspire E15 here. E5-511-P0GC
Endless thank you's. I never would have found this.

So...I had the same problem and i think i know it:
1. Enter Control Panel.
2. Click Network and Internet.
3. Click Network and Sharing Center.
4. Click Change adapter settings
5. Click WiFi (double click 😀)
6. Click Properties.
7. Click Configure.
8. Click Power Management.
9. Make sure that "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" isn't checked.

It worked to me although "Maximum performance" was checked. It seems that these 2 settings work separately (STUPID!!)
