Hey guys, im hoping i put this forum in the correct section. If not, i am sorry.

Right, down to my problem, i have a 2 year old laptop (Toshiba Satellite c850-19z) and the built in wireless speed is great, 50+mbps (promised 90+mbps but im not complaining). i recently built my own desktop, nothing fancy but not too shabby either. In it i have a ralink 802.11n wireless PCI card, and herein lies the problem. My desktop, connected to the same network, and literally right beside me when i use my laptop, (i use my laptop on my computer desk, PC sits on the desk as well) has NEVER broken 5mbps. no matter what i do, it gets no where near the same download speed, (or upload speed, but i don't really upload anything, so i don't care).

Also, just as a side note, with Ethernet, its the same problem; laptop, fast speeds, PC, frustratingly slow speeds, and when im using my PC i cannot use WiFi on anything else, it literally will not connect, but when im on my laptop, everything else can connect to the WiFi no problem.

So, do any of you guys know what the problem may be? or how to fix it? thank you

Solution
Sounds like the problem is with the PC.

If you can, try using a bootable Linux CD/DVD with the desktop pc and see what speed it gets. If much better, then you know its something to do with your windows settings.

Do you have all the latest drivers for the pc? Are any items in device manager showing up with the yellow exclamation points?

Hey buddy, sorry it took me a little while to get back, my living room tv doubles as my monitor, so i had to wait until my girlfriend was busy to install ubuntu. right, so i checked all my drivers, all are optimal. installed ubuntu 14.10, ran speedtest.net download - 3.08Mbps upload >5.79Mbps so no difference at all. do you think it could be my tp-link pci network card? its a cheap card (£12 i think)so it wouldnt surprise me if that was the problem :/

I know this pst was made quite a while ago, but i thought id give you an update. i ditched the pci wireless card and spent £2 on a USB wifi adapter (the type you get for raspberry pi) and i still lose connection quite a bit, but i think thats just cause my isp is shit. However, when i do get a connection, im up around 40mbps. so i think you were right dude, and it was just the pci card. thanks for your help dude.
