My laptop wifi will only connect for a minute, then changes to "limited". The rest of my electronics can stay connected and work fine. I dual boot with Win 7 and Ubuntu. Both OS' seem to do it. It works fine when I connect the Ethernet cable into the laptop.

This Ethernet cable is from a larger network for all the apartments in the building to have internet. Then I connected a wifi router to that.

Could my wifi card in my laptop gone bad? Could they have blocked my ip. It worked just fine until recently. I'm unsure what to do to fix this

if you connect wired to the router you have the net on the laptop then i would check the router settings for the wireless and try to use channel 9 if you could for the wireless , the other way to check the wi-fi card is to go where the have free internet or a hotspot and see how long it way stay on .

so my router isnt a router. I guess it is a wifi extender. I am not extending wifi. I just plugged the ethernet cable into port 1 and was able to connect just like a router. Now this doesn't work anymore. I have no idea what could have changed. Is there any way to get this to act just like a regular router? I just need it to act as a wireless gateway to the ethernet cable.

it is a Net Gear wp2000rpt.
