laptop will not read dvd/cd drive

i looked into the computer and it says the driver will not download because its corrupted or out of date. looked further into it and the driver is fine. how do i get the computer to recognize the dvd/cd drive?

I'm not sure what is happening here. Do you put a disc in the drive and nothing happens? Or does the drive not show up in my computer?

Right click on my computer and click on manage. Go to disk management and see if the drive shows up. You can also check device manager to see if there is an exclamation point on the drive.

the exclamation point is on the drive.....would it be better to just go to a restore point to fix it?

You can try a restore point if you have one.
