Laptop Wireless Mouse that will last

I have a Logitech M505 and I'm pretty happy with it. But after 1.5 years, it's starting to show the "double click" issue that I keep reading about. That is, some single clicks are registered more than once. New batteries didn't seem to help (I thought they did, but it's still happening). It seems that the internal button has worn to a point that it is unpredictable or the de-bouncing isn't working or something.

Anyway, I'm looking into warranty options but I'm also interested in other suggestions for a mouse that might have a more durable switch mechanism.

Requirements:

  • ■ Prefer wireless. It's mostly on my desk, but being for a laptop, I travel with it.
    ■ Good battery life (this lasted more than the advertised 15 months or whatever), but 3-6 months would be a good minimum
    ■ Comparable DPI/precision to the M505 I have now
    ■ Middle-button and scroll wheel
    ■ Either back/forward buttons or tilting scroll wheel like this mouse has (I like it for web browsing). Other buttons are nice but not required
    ■ Most importantly, something durable that won't have this annoying "double click" issue.

I don't play a lot of games, except occasionally. But I've been playing a lot of Age of Empires 2 HD. Anyway, the point is, I don't really need a gaming mouse, though I'm open to one if the build quality is better and the price is right.

Budget is hopefully under $60 or so.

i myself have a m505 for use with my laptop and to be honest i just throw the thing into the front pouch of my computer bag which has my camera, battery charger and other goodies in there so i'm sure its not the most pristine storage environment.

mine is still working fine without double clicking issues and its probably 2 years old now at least.

the double clicking issue is fixable on mice... see this instructable.. i have it on the page which shows the problem but it shows you how to take mice apart on previous pages. http://www.instructables.com/id/Repair-mouse-with-double-click-problem/step7/locate-remove-and-retension-the-spring/ however do consider that you can buy a brand new m505/similar mouse for fairly cheap on sale. i think...

in contrast even a $60 mouse can develop the issue. my razer deathadder which is probably 3-4 years old now is starting to get to that point. it doesnt double click all the time but it does sometimes (i need to disassemble it and fix it or just replace it). my old mx1000 mouse however lasted over 6 years without ever having an issue like that. i think it has alot to do with how much use they get and that mouse is my daily driver as well as what particular switch is used for the mouse buttons. there really is no easy way to tell about the switches as you cannot gleam that from build quality and by the time you know if a mouse is reliable (after 3-4 years or more of no issues) its far too hard to find for cheap on the market. so buying new you're always stuck with a gamble for the most part.

my suggestions would be to either get another m505/similar for cheap or try and fix the issue yourself (and if you fail to fix it, just get a new mouse)

Thanks, I was kind of thinking that. I think I'll start with either the warranty (just because I have one and they may replace the switch, which seems better than just bending it) or try to fix it myself.

I'll probably order a backup to have either way. m510 looks attractive at the current price, and I like that extra button (m505 is a lot more right now).
