Laptop with 1 headphone jack

Hi my friend owns a ASUS R557L with Intel Core i3

The problem is that he only has one headphone jack, so i guess there is headphone & mic in one jack.

But when you try put in the usal iphone headset the mic doesnt work.

If he would buy an adapter Headphone & Mic to Headphone, would it work?

Did you check in control panel if mic is enabled once you plug in your headphones? Hopefully it's that.. if not it could be hardware issue, in that case best thing you can do is buying external USB sound card, which might be worth it, because people are reporting repeating deaths of the headphone jack even after repair..

I contacted ASUS support and they sent new drivers and it worked
