You should be able to, but you need to set the resolution to 4K. From my quick research, The HDMI port that Lenovo Y50 has is a HDMI 1.4, which means it can only support 4K@30Hz.

will this affect watching videos at 60 fps, and do you mean set the monitor resolution to 4k?

Your system might still detect it at 1080p (I'm really not sure about it, though). You won't get any major trouble watching movies at 4K because most movies have a cinematic framerate of 24 FPS.
