Laptop won't boot from cloned SSD

Was wondering if anybody had any ideas on how to get my laptop to boot from my new SSD that I cloned. My current Hard Drive runs windows 10 and I cloned it to a new SSD so I could swap out the old HDD. After a successful clone to the new SSD and installing it in place of the old HDD, I get the 'insert bootable device and press any key'. I'm not sure what to do from here.

Welcome to the community, Trick Montalban!

I'd recommend you to check your BIOS settings and make sure that the SATA mode for the SSD is set to AHCI. Then make sure that the BIOS boot priority is set to your installation media (DVD/CD/USB) first, and then to the SSD (instead of your previous HDD).
Here's a guide that might help you find out which step you've missed: http://lifehacker.com/5837543/how-to-migrate-to-a-solid-state-drive-without-reinstalling-windows

Hope it helps. Keep me posted! :)

Thanks!

That link from Life Hacker is what I was originally going by. For some reason, the BIOS is rather difficult to access from W10. I still know of one work around and will try that. Hopefully it works.

I recently had the same problem with migrating my Win10 installation from HDD to SSD.

If you've already removed all other storage media except the SSD, it's probably not holding all the data it needs to boot Windows, but check the boot options in the BIOS anyway to be sure.

If everything is fine in the BIOS, I'd recommend going back to your cloning tool and selecting a full-disk clone rather than a partition clone.
You can always resize the partitions (if they get wonky like in my case) with Partition Magic or some other tool at a later time.

Just remember that if you do shift the partitions, you might lose the Recovery volume.

PS: I used EaseUs tools for my migration and I'm pretty happy with the results. The only downside is that I removed my Recovery partition and am too lazy to rebuild it 😛
The EaseUs tools have a specific option for migrating your OS to SSDs, so I think that's as close to a one-touch solution you can get.

So, sat back down to try and tackle this some more and I have had no luck. I am not 100% computer tech-y but, I know enough to be dangerous. It should not be this difficult to access settings (BIOS) to get this SSD to work. My only other option at this point is reverting back to 7 and changing everything from there. I'm not sure if I'm as big a fan of 10 now being that you don't seem to have 'control' over your own pc anymore.

Anyways, sorry for the little rant and I appreciate everyone that has chimed in with help/suggestions.

EDIT: Welp, nevermind. I can't even revert back to 7. This seemingly simple hardware swap has been nothing but a headache. Again, it should not be this difficult. :fou:
