Hey folks,

I switched my laptop on earlier and it won't boot from the hard drive. It gives me the "insert media to boot from blah blah..." message.

As you can see, BIOS detects the hard drive.

I tried to "Repair Windows" with the windows disc, but had this error. I'm fairly confident that it's the correct disc that I used to originally install windows.

When I boot up the PC, it tries to boot from the network. If I have an ethernet cable plugged in, it'll search the Internet for something to boot from, before giving up and asking me to insert media to boot from.

I have mixed knowledge about PCs, but little practical experience with hardware problems. I'd appreciate and be grateful for any help given.

Thanks.

I hope you have current backups. I had to use MiniTool Partition Wizard version 9.1 AFTER making fast full image backups, Acronis Disk Director 12 [or anything similar], then finally restore my OS and data partitions from my backups. I do not know how to even begin to walk you through this.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I'm not too bothered about making a backup, as I only used the laptop for bits of work and gaming when away from home. If I can't fix it then I'm going to try reinstalling windows, and if that doesn't work, then the laptop is still in warranty.
