I have an Asus a54c-tb31 laptop with 1x4gb ram, and i have another stick of 1x4gb ram of the same speed, but when i put it into the one empty slot on the laptop, it won't boot. The laptop instead turns on and the power light(and charging light if the battery and charger are plugged in) and numlock and capslock lights turn on, there is a light with a symbol that looks like a cylinder, which turns on for a few seconds then turns off. After the lights turn on, nothing happens, the screen doesn't turn on and the splash screen noise doesn't play, and a second monitor doesn't work. Sometimes i can get it to start but after a minute or less the screen freezes and different colors start flickering all over the screen and the entire laptop becomes unresponsive. I've tried reinstalling my OS(Windows 10 home edition) and i also removing and replacing the hard drive. The laptop isn't mine to begin with so i don't have the user manual, but i believe that this laptop has a maximum of 8gb ram. It booted fine with the 8gb a few times after having this issue when i restarted it a few times while holding it in the air, but that isn't working anymore. All the help i can get would be appreciated.

Solution
There is one of two things that can be wrong, the RAM you are using is bad or not compatible with that computer for some reason, or the RAM slot is bad.

I was worried the ram was bad, thanks for the answer
