I have a 2014 HP envy 15t j100 laptop. Recently started making loud fan noises and vibrating so i took it apart and cleaned out the dust, disconnecting the hard drive in the process. Now the laptop won't boot, giving me a INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE error. I looked it up and tried almost every solution, but always run into a problem. This is what i got so far.
DiskPart says there are no fixed disks to show.
No C: drive accessible, the only one is X:
Bootrec /ScanOS says there is no windows installations.
Hard drive makes noise when booting up, and is recognized and passes all tests on the systems diagnostics.
Refresh your PC tells me that my drive with windows is locked.
Reset your PC tells me that a required drive partition is missing.
Laptop came pre-installed with windows 8.1 so i have no disc. All restore functionality is supposed to be on that drive.

Hi there Mazer,

It is possible that your HDD is failing. It would be best if you can attach it to another system as a secondary drive via SATA to USB cable.
If you can access it right away, you need to back up the data stored on it. In case you can't, you can try using some data recovery software: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html

After that, you can just test the drive: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
