I have a dell precision M6300, and I got an Nvidia Geforce GTX 645. I used a DVI cable to hook them up, but it's not detected.

Specs:
Nvidia Quadro FX 1600M
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.40 Ghz

Hook what to what precisely? Typically a laptop's screen can't be used as a display for an external source.

Recent laptops may be able to accommodate an external graphics card using a dock via a Thunderbolt 3 connector. Older laptops require more fiddling if they have the appropriate hardware (I recall something about card slots for a Thinkpad T430).
