Hello

I have this older laptop which had Windows XP on it,
Runned a windows tool, said it could run Windows 7.

Decided to install Windows 7 on it, clean the whole disk ( format ).
Then while installing, continue getting the Windows 7 Installation Error 0x80070017
tried other CD's / Dvd's , none worked, keep getting the error.

Decided to install Windows 7 with USB.
Now i get the error 0xc0000225
Every fix i find on the internet is talking about repair the Windows 7,
BUT i haven't even installed Windows 7 on it yet.

What do i do now?

But it worked perfect before with the XP , and now its kinda ruined ( it's my aunts laptop )
i dont have another HDD ;o

Stop using the hard disk and save all data from it on to a different hard disk.

Hard disks like all other products (yes ALL) have a definite life span. Every product will fail at some time or the other.

Take the HDD out and connect it to another computer. Then run CHKDSK on it to check it. Some other programs are HDTune, CrystalDiskInfo. These programs will tell you how good (or how bad) the HDD is.

Regular and frequent backups are important!

I got a bit futher, now im at the point it says:

Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition.
Im trying it with a DVD or USB, i know both work for 100%, becuz i install windows 7 all the time on my own pc or friends

Im sorry SR-71 Blackbird, bad media as in bad software on the USB and DVD? cuz thats impossible.
That's why i didn't do a personal response but a general response.

It's strange that with the DVD it installs but dosn't go futher then 0% and i get the 0x80070017 error,
but if i try it with the USB, i get the 0xc0000225 error.
