Everytime I try and turn off my Inspiron N5110 Dell Laptop, it will say shutting down and the screen will go black but the power button light will never go off. Also, if I leave it sitting and it falls asleep it won't actually hibernate and I will have to hold the power button to turn it off all the way and then turn it back on. It recently stopped charging and would only work when it was plugged in but it has started charging again. Any ideas on what's wrong or how to fix it??

You have a problem with Fast Start, a feature in W8 which stores Startup data in a Hiberfile on your HDD to enable fast boot. In my experience it's best to by-pass Fast startup, either by disabling, , type 'Power' at Start Screen and select 'Change what the Power Buttons do' then it's 'Change settings that are currently unavailable' and scroll down to 'Turn on Fast Startup' to uncheck the box.
Or you can shut down from Windows Key plus 'X'

As for the charging, sounds like your DC jack might be loose. Hopefully not a problem with the charging circuitry which can only be rectified by a motherboard renewal. Discharging your battery by running on battery only till it stops and then fully charging is recommended to preserve the life of the battery. Repeat 3 times.

Have you tried clicking the 'switch user' button then shutting it down from that screen? My wife's Dell laptop running Windows XP has a similar problem which just magically showed up a few weeks ago. I looked everywhere online for a solution and even had a hard time finding the right question that had been asked by someone else.

I tried many of the suggestions on this forum and others but none of it worked. Then, I tried doing the 'switch user' trick. When I am in the screen that lets you switch users, I can click on the red shut down button and it will finally shut down after I assure it that the other users are not using the computer. It's a pain, but it's better for the computer than holding down the physical power button like I was doing before I figured this out.

Disassemble the laptop...remove Hard-drive,DVD R/W,WI-FI Card,RAM....release the wires(power touchpad keyboard usb)....and again connect it....assemble all the parts as it was before...now it will shutdown completely...
thanks

Hello. I have an Acer Aspire 8951g with the same problem. When I power of the laptop on charge the caps lock, num lock and P button keep lighting on, but when I unplug the charger everything is fine. I tried reinstalling windows 10 but nothing happens, I disassembled the laptop piece with the piece and then putting all together and...surprise the led stopped lighting but after a half, an hour everything goes back to ,,normal'' and the led keep lighting after powering off the laptop with te charger plugged in. Any advice is helpful. Thank you.
P:S: Sorry for my bad English

Are you able to borrow another charger from somewhere, could be causing the problem...
