Question laptop wont turn on when touchpad ribbon is connected

took apart the laptop (g751jl) to clean dust out. when i put it back together, it wouldn't turn on. unplugged cables until i found the one. as long as the touchpad is disconnected, the laptop works. if i connect it, it stops working. is the ribbon ruined or something?

Most likely. Look for damaged pins on the ends of the cable. Either this or the touchpad board is defective.

found problems with the cable, replaced it, still doesn't work. is the touch pad broken? touch pad worked before and should have no reason to stop

I have an asus g751 jl. I recently took it apart to replace thermal paste and clean out dust, but when i put it back together, it wouldn't turn on. the only thing that lets it turn on is disconnecting the touchpad ribbon cable. is my touchpad defective and causing some sort of problem with the computer and can i fix it?

Probably a fault with a connector or ESD damage from when you opened the laptop, though I'm not sure the latter would cause the rest of the system to not power on in this case.
