Laptops and WQHD questions

I am trying to buy a Quad HD monitor and laptop that can be used together. Though I seem to be running into quite a few questions. Some monitors require dual-DVI which pretty well takes a laptop out of the question. Others can use HDMI 1.4, but how do I know that the laptop can make use of this? Then there is directport, but would using an adapter for directport lose quality? Does the laptop need to specifically support WQHD?

I dont have either, I am looking to buy both. But I want to make sure they will work together and try to avoid as much quality loss as possible. My wife will be editing photos with them and insists she has to have a laptop.

i misread your post and by quad i though you meant 4 monitors.
