Hi all,

I'm creating a build for emulation and I've spent quite a while looking for a GPU that fulfils my requirements, which are:

- Must have at least one analog output (DVI-I or VGA)
- Must be under 9" to fit in a Silverstone - SG05BB-450 mITX case
- Latest GPU with analog output (newer preferred)
- Must be AMD (NVIDIA gpu's are incompatible with the software)

I have found that the [strike]Radeon R9 360[/strike] seems to be the last card that has at least one analog output.

edit: Seems that some of the R9 380X's still had analog and are better.

I wanted to ask you guys if I'm right in saying that, as I'll go ahead with the purchase soon. Maybe I have missed a card out?

Thanks in advance.

may not be able to buy from newegg but at least you can filter it down to a few models you can then look for locally :)

but to illustrate my point, here is newegg's listings for 390/x cards along with 470 and 480 models. as you can see the much stronger 480 is $230 while the 390x is $420 (used card as well). that $200 extra gets you a weaker card that uses up to 300w!!! while the 480 would only use about 150-200w. not sure what pricing looks like in the EU but i would assume this trend holds there as well.

but good luck either way you chose to go. :)
the 300 series was the last ones that had analog support. the 400 series was where it got dropped.

so yes a 380 or even a 390x would still have it. do your homework though since not every card was made with them as outputs despite having the ability to use it. but a quick look on newegg showed a number of models all across the 300 series that have analog support.

but honestly for the price of these older cards, you could a lot better with a new card. a simple ACTIVE hdmi/dp to vga/dvi adapter would bridge the gap for you easy enough. this would change the now digital signal into the older analog one and allow you to get a much newer, cheaper and less power hungry card thatn any of the old 300 series ones. those suckers sucked the power down big time.

I'm hooking it up to an analog display. I could use an active converter on a GPU with HDMI/Dp etc but I'd rather not convert signals.Older GPUs are cheaper and I don't needs lots of GPU power. I could get a old 4xxx series but I thought why not get something newer like the R9 380X if it's not too much more cash :)

Cheers, I will look at newegg (I'm in EU so didn't check that one). Seems like some of the 390x do in fact have analog but others don't. 390x must be the answer !

edit: Ok, I didn't know they drained a lot of power. I wanted to avoid converting from digital>analog as heard it can cause lag. Maybe the 360 would be the best option then? It seems low profile so I assume low power?

the 380 and 380x were not quite as bad. they topped out at around 200w as well. but the 390 and 390x were much more power hungry.

not sure about lag for the active adapter. not seen anything that says it does or does not really. can't say i've ever seen any testing done on them to know.

Cheers. I will look into the power ratings as the case only comes with a 450W PSU. I'll look more into the converter as well if all of the 300 series turn out to be too powerful.

Thanks a bunch.
