Hi folks. I'm looking for last minute advice for my bro's build. He currently has a core 2 duo with an msi board and 3GB ram. He was about to upgrade motherboard cpu memory and gfx but today saw a fantastic local deal on a Dell ultra sharp. He can't afford to buy it all so I wondering if he got the new gtx and Dell monitor would this be Ok?

Is it silly to put new gtx into an old system. Should he let the monitor slide?

Solution
yeah, it's a bit much, you won't see a difference between that card or cards that are a tier lower. tho if he can upgrade his cpu/mobo after xmas, it may be a good deal
what model of Dell ultrasharp, or rather, what resolution? also what is his current GPU? assuming his GPU is as old as the rest of his system, it won't handle gaming on 1080p well, and probably won't do much at all for 1440p. on the other hand if he doesn't care for gaming, then it should be fine.

It's a 23 inch 1080p ips model. He would buy a gfx card too but can't stretch to motherboard cpu and memory too. His hard drive is cavier blue WD. We are not sure about putting an expensive card on an old mother board. His psu was an expensive one and 700 watt but I forget the name.

Thanks for response...

It is an Asus GTX 760. It would be for maybe one or two months till he gets through Christmas. You would think this too much?

Thanks again for the help...
