News Last-minute PS5 Pro leaks indicate system will pack 16.7 TFLOPS GPU with 16GB dedicated GDDR6 VRAM — plus 2GB DDR5 system RAM

make PlayStation 5 Slim faceplates compatible with the Pro were the interlocking mechanisms not seemingly changed specifically to prevent that functionality

still waiting for someone to figure out an adapter frame to connect to new console ,but other side offsets the clips to match original.

The DDR5 is likely reserved for the SSD, like the 512GB DDR4 on the PS5. SSDs often have 1GB of RAM per 1TB of capacity. It would make no sense to use a single 2GB DRAM package as system memory. Bandwidth would be pathetic and the capacity is entirely inadequate. Microsoft is constantly dealing with the self-inflicted headache of having 2GB of system memory with only 56GB/s of bandwidth on the Series S. Sony’s software and development platform are built around unified memory for the CPU and GPU. The only reason MS uses separate pools on the Xbox is that the software and dev tools are based on Windows and DirectX, where games and the associated OS processes assume separate pools connected across a slow bus. They attempt to reduce duplication and latency with DirectStorage but it’s not enough to keep the crippled S from delaying games and potentially forcing a replacement sooner than MS would like.

You should REALLY change the title to say 18GB system memory with 2GB reserved for the OS. A PS5 doesn’t have any dedicated VRAM at all, regardless of the fact that the system memory is GDDR6.

That’s nothing. According to this article, the CPU literally has no access to any RAM except for OS functions. I get the feeling that the author doesn’t really know how these things work…

$850 USD (PS5 Pro + disc drive + stand) for only 16 TF? What a scam ! "Especially since only barely 5% of the games will be optimized for this console, the predicted flop is confirmed. Truly the worst PlayStation generation!"

I agree and disagree. I agree that the PS5 Pro is not worth the money and that most games will not take advantage of the extra resources, you know because it takes capital resources to do that and most devs these days are cutting back or are getting the axe.

I disagree in that this will be a flop. The PS4 Pro which I bought launch day and still have, sold millions but not at the rate of the vanilla PS4. I expect the PS5 Pro to sell millions as well.

As for me, I will sit this one out and will wait for the PlayStation 6 instead. I learned my lesson with mid-cycle hardware. To make matters worse for those that do purchase a PS5 Pro, Sony is on record stating that the PS5 is at the end of its lifecycle. Bring on the PS6 !

The era of the PS4 Pro is long gone; the PS4 Pro didn't have as much bad buzz and didn't have such a ridiculously high price for just a bit more power.

And as you said, it costs money for studios to develop specific optimizations, especially when very few studios optimize their games for DLSS and FSR, which are widely compatible with many hardware. Why would studios bother optimizing for PSSR and a console that will sell very little ?

Household situations are more difficult today than they were back then.

Also, the state of the industry today is not the same as it was during the PS4 Pro era; the current situation is much more challenging for development studios.

For me, this is my last PlayStation console. I'm tired of paying for remasters and nothing new! Sony's scam policy no longer suits me!

MS should've known 2gb wasn't enough for current gen right? Maybe they wanted the s to be a game streaming box?

It’s not actually 16TF.
It’s equivalent to 16TF if it was RDNA2.

Since PS5 pro is in fact RDNA4 it has the bloated dual issue TF numbers. If it is actually 16TF it will be slower than 10TF PS5 base.

So you can think it is 32TF in wave64 mode but game never use that so Sony only listed it as 16TF to reduce false expectations.

This is the TFLOPS before dual issue.
So it’s more inline with 7700XT performance level before any RDNA4 improvements and PSSR.

PSSR by itself is a huge boost to performance that can not be ignored.
