I agree and disagree. I agree that the PS5 Pro is not worth the money and that most games will not take advantage of the extra resources, you know because it takes capital resources to do that and most devs these days are cutting back or are getting the axe.
I disagree in that this will be a flop. The PS4 Pro which I bought launch day and still have, sold millions but not at the rate of the vanilla PS4. I expect the PS5 Pro to sell millions as well.
As for me, I will sit this one out and will wait for the PlayStation 6 instead. I learned my lesson with mid-cycle hardware. To make matters worse for those that do purchase a PS5 Pro, Sony is on record stating that the PS5 is at the end of its lifecycle. Bring on the PS6 !
The era of the PS4 Pro is long gone; the PS4 Pro didn't have as much bad buzz and didn't have such a ridiculously high price for just a bit more power.
And as you said, it costs money for studios to develop specific optimizations, especially when very few studios optimize their games for DLSS and FSR, which are widely compatible with many hardware. Why would studios bother optimizing for PSSR and a console that will sell very little ?
Household situations are more difficult today than they were back then.
Also, the state of the industry today is not the same as it was during the PS4 Pro era; the current situation is much more challenging for development studios.
For me, this is my last PlayStation console. I'm tired of paying for remasters and nothing new! Sony's scam policy no longer suits me!
