My current config is
GPU - msi gtx960 4Gb
CPU-intel i7 860 lynnfield 2.80ghz turbo boost.
mobo-msi-P55-GD65

i am confused wHY my old processor and motherboard will hamper the graphics quality of games. i like to play all games in high settings. games like skyrim, battlefield, COD, Farcry series. Now i play dota2 also i got like fps around 50-70 fps, it even get worse when war 20-30 fps.

What the problem and what should i do ?

Solution

50-70 fps is quite good. Especially since with a 60 Hz vert. refresh rate, you are limited to...
What resolution is your monitor?
What is its vert refresh, 60 Hz?
The i7-860 will begin to bottleneck any modern card more powerful than the GTX 1060/RX-480. But if you plan on upgrading to a more modern platform in the near future, you can get just about any gfx card you can afford and have the PSU to support. PCIe is backward compatible if that was a concern you had.

Thank you for fast reply,

My resolution is 1920 x 1080..yes it is 60 Hz

So, my current gpu-msi gtx960 4Gb will not bottleneck the system right ?

Then can i know why my fps drop when running the game ?

sorry for the trouble, i'm still new in this area.

Your gtx 960 doesnt bottleneck your system, but your cpu does. Bl00dy h3ll even a celeron g16xx would beat your i7. Simply your cpu is not powerfull enough to run todays games. Information passes through cpu first, and then the gpu, so if your cpu is slow, it slows down your gpu aswell, not letting it achieve its limits. Probably your 960 runs at 50% or even less, since your cpu bottlenecks it. If you want a cheap solution, a mid range i5 6500 would do the trick (a 70$ mobo could handle this cpu, so relatively cheap at around 200$ total).
Hope i helped

50-70 fps is quite good. Especially since with a 60 Hz vert. refresh rate, you are limited to seeing ~60 fps max anyway. The drops to 20-30 fps could be the limitation of the GTX 960 in very graphically intense parts of a game. And of course, the aging, somewhat slow (by today's standards) i7-870 will be a limitation too. But the best improvement you can make w/o resorting to buying a whole new platform, would be to get a faster card. Just don't waste your money on a card that is going to be bottlenecked by the CPU.
