Latest large windows update this week black screen and cursor only

Hi all I've never had issues with Windows before but this week there was a very large patch. I tried to download and install it but afterwords I can log into Windows but all I get is a black screen with my mouse pointer. I can control although delete to task manager but I can't run any programs. Even if I try safe mode I can't run or do anything. I can load back to a restore point yesterday safely but obviously would like to successfully get the download. Anybody have any advice on what to do? Thanks
