i have switched to using mozilla, but noticed that if i need to see launch
video,
eg. reading a news article am today , i clicked launch to see video and
page pops up , as usual, to download
ie 5 or higher
or windows player
or realplayer........ i have them already
why is mozilla asking to download. when i go and click on my desktop ie and
go to same article msnbc or whatever i am able to click launch video and
view piece. thank you

mozilla is my default browser

Those pages are for when the video is embedded in the webpage. What
you're missing is the browser plug-ins for Mozilla(/Netscape). Usually
if Mozilla catches it there's a yellow bar across the top that says
"This page needs a plug-in to work properly"(or something like that), or
at least in Firefox it does; clicking on the "Get plug-in" will send you
over to Netscape's site where you can download and install.

RealPlayer probably has the plug-in packaged with the standalone player,
though beats me as to how to install it (I rarely use plug-ins and never
use RealPlayer).

or if this didn't make sense to you, post a URL of an example and I'll
try it out in Firefox.

In the Mozilla slot for the URL (www.microsoft.com for example), highlight
it with your cursor, right click and click on Copy and then go to a post to
this news group, click your cursor in this part of the post and click on
Paste above in the taskbar. You can also right click in the body of the
message and click on Paste.

that doesn't contain a link to a video stream, that's just an (animated)
gif. If that's your problem, look in Mozilla's options for "animated
gif" and change it to "cycle" or "repeat".

oh.

Looks like M$ wants you to install IE6 and the latest WMP.

<shrug>

your choice if you want to or not; whether the stuff would run under
your current browser and media player is immaterial as apparently they
check to see what browser you're running, first.

on my computer. except that when i am using mozilla firefox as a browser i
am unable to launch video and need to click my ie instead to view it. that
was my original question.

Boni.......there is an *extension* in Firefox called IE View that you can
use for pages that FF doesn't work with......look under Bookmarks for Themes
and Extensions.

Why? 1.04 is two versions behind the latest one. And 1.06 fixed a security

knee-jerk reaction to "you have to upgrade to the latest'n'greatest
before looking for extensions"; what about the extensions that worked
for earlier vers ?

so how does that thing work anyways?

I assume you mean View as IE extension.......it goes in the Tools drop down
and if you hit a page (such as MS), just click on "Always View This Page In
IE" and it will bring up IE for that website. Very handy for the odd one
that I find....not many of them tho.

What I particularly like is the fact I no longer get popups and spyware and
being able to open in tabs is handy.

Are you saying you already have it installed?? Or that you went the *long
route* to get to the Extensions and Themes pages. Either way, download it
after getting 1.0.6 installed.
