launching from usb drive

hey guys, i have just built my first PC and am having trouble getting everything up and running, i have a Asus M5A78L-M LX mb and a AMD fx 6300 black edition processor, i have formatted an usb drive on another computer to boot from and install my os, but every time i try to boot from it is just says, Disk error.. any help would be appreciated

Set USB as first boot device in BIOS Setup, save and exit.

yeah i tried all of that, i even updated the bios on the mb to the most current version but still no luck 🙁
