Hello

I’m hoping that there is someone out there who can shed some light on buying a LCD monitor.

I’m looking for a 19” LCD monitor for both Ms Office and gaming, hopefully for about $300 give or take. For general computer use my desktop is set at 1280x1024 while I usually set my games at 1024x768 on my NVIDIA Geforce GT6600.

In the past I have read some articles about some of the issues that come along with LCD monitors. An example I guess would be ghosting?

From what I have read so far some features I need to look for are:

- Stay away from LCD's with built in speakers.
- go with DVI interface preferred
- Feature called Overdrive (Optional? I’m still looking into this)

My first question is this, what other features and settings would you recommend for a decent LCD for everyday use and gaming?

My last question how is your LCD? Would you recommend it?

(For all those who reply to this posting I would like to say right off thank you for your time and help!)

I would recommend these 3 LCD's:

All have excellent response times (<12MS), the latter 2 having 8ms. Generally, the lower the response time the less "ghosting" effect you're going to see. Ghosting occurs when an image or object moves quickly on the LCD screen and you can briefly see a trailing "ghost" behind it. It occurs most frequent in games and movies. Only disadvantage to the first two models is they are D-sub analog inputs. No DVI

The last is $18 more, but has DVI. It also has built in speakers. Yes, built in speakers generally suck donkey balls but you can turn them off and just use your own. I would go for this one if it were me. (FYI, I am buying this one for myself as a x-mas gift).

Tomshardware reviewed the last model. Here's the URL to it:

If you're a hard-core gamer, you can choose one of these three models and you won't be disappointed. So far, these panels are the fastest ever tested at Tom's Hardware. As the BenQ monitor will not be sold in the US (according to BenQ's sales office) we make the L90D+ our reference monitor as far as reactivity is concerned. It also offers more advanced ergonomic features than its competitor, while other brands are still lagging behind in offering their 8 ms displays. Thus, the Hyundai L90D+ gets our Editor's Choice award.

All these LCD's have received excellent reviews on many different websites (including this one) and all of them are in your price range. You can't get better LCD's for your money IMO.
