I use my monitor for browsing & text, no games, videos, etc. Would I be better off with a Solarism LM 1503 with 800 Brightness/350 Contrast & a total response rate of 40 or an Acer AL532 or Planar FWT1503Z which both have 300 Brightness/500 Contrast and a total response rate of 25?

Contrast Ratio IMHO is far more important than brightness, unless of course you use the monitor outside in direct sunlight.

If you use it for office work, then 800 cd/m^2 brightness is way too much, blinding even. With what you describe, go with something that has great contrast and viewing angles.
