G'day I was hoping you'd help me out

I did some research today into getting an LCD monitor that would serve me well not just for crispness of picture but also for gaming (refresh rate) and what not. Anyway, a monitor with the best combination of both I could find.

I finally settled on the Viewsonic VP930b (The Tom's Hardware review in fact was instrumental in having me so bent on it.) which seems to have enjoyed rave reviews all round. Anyway, for some reason I am having major dramas trying to find it in Australia. I have tried a huge range of Aussie online retailers to no avail. Everyone seems to stock the VP920b however it seems to be a less capable monitor.

A couple of the retailers USED to stock them but no longer. They couldn't give me a clear reason as to why which got me curious, after some further research I found a thread on this forum where people complained about having to send their VP930b's back in on several occasions because of problems with the cabling etc. Is this possibly the reason?

I also just went to the computer store in town and all their monitors were crap. I really would like to invest in a decent monitor in the next few days as this CRT has absolutely had it.

Questions:

1) Why would I be finding it so hard to find the VP930b in Australia? Is it old now? Were there problems with it? Is their better available?

2) Perhaps any recommendations that you know to be comparable with the VP930b?

It is really hard and time consuming doing reasearch online because nearly every site that comes up is just trying to sell stuff to you.

Any help from members here would be most appreciated
Cheers,
Daniel

The VP930 has good picture characteristics because it has a VA panel (instead of the usual TN panel offered in most gamer's monitors).

So, look for something with a MVA, PVA or SIPS panel.

Samsung's 940T (16ms) gets EXCELLENT buyer reviews at Newegg. Samsung also has a new model with the same panel and overdrive... the 971P (6ms).

Thanks for the advice mate :)

I very much like the look of the 971P but as it is so new it is hard to find reliable info/reviews on the machine that is not from sites trying to flog it.

samsung.com has it listed but samsung.com.au doesn't so being Australia I'll probably be waiting until mid next year for it! I'm having trouble finding the VP930b and it was released elsewhere last year!

The search continues, Im going to write to samsung about the 971T. Cheers.

While on this topic,

Im looking for the absolute best 30+ inch LCD Display for the Falcon Mach V Im purchasing. Right now Im pretty much limited to looking at Dual Apple Cinema Displays at 30" each.

Are these the top end? Looking for something between 30 and 36 inches that will go above the 1368x768 resolution of most HD TV's
And really like the high end Res. of the Apple. So...any suggestions?
