LCD monitor is not dark enough

I just got a Samsung SyncMaster 913N and I'm quite please with it except for
the lack of black when playing Thief. I thought this might be a problem and this monitor is claimed to have quite good black levels. There doesn't seem to
be a complete black, the backlight shows through always to some extent.
Am I asking too much of an LCD monitor or can I do better? Apart from this one thing I don't regret changing from CRT to LCD.

Some LCD's have that problem, heard more about it in the 19" range tho.
Generally, Dells 2005 and 2405 models have significant improvements.

Lower your brightness some to see if that helps.

Oops, sorry about the mis-post. Been tinkering with it
and decided I'll have to return to a CRT , shame cos it looks
nice on my desktop there. I chose it for its good response time but you can't get away from that backlit effect even on pure black.

get an lcd with higher contrast ratio and should do it (at least 700:1)
