LCD or LED for a gaming monitor?

So I've been looking around and all the IPS, 60+HZ and all that jazz monitors, are mixed between LCD and LED i have no idea what is better to play games on and stream tv shows and so on.
What would be best? I'm down grading or even upgrading from a 6 year old tv screen which is 32" 1080p to hopefully a 24" +.

Almost all monitors are LCD panels with LED backlights. Sometimes the marketing and product title will only list one of those, but if you are looking at any decent monitors you are going to be getting both.

LCD and LED mean the same thing usually.

LED is the backlight.

LCD is the front panel that filters the backlight to produce the colors.

(We use to have CCFL backlights with LCD panels, then we got LED and people just mixed LCD and LED interchangeably)

What is best?

Depends on your budget. I'll give a few choices.

It's hard to advise without a budget. Ideally a 25" or greater with 2560x1440 resolution.

If too expensive filter by price, resolution, IPS etc and also look for customer feedback and reviews.
