Hello, I just purchased teh Hyundai L90D+ from newegg.com. I received it wiht no dead pixels but a strange cut in the middle left of the screen. It isn't a dead pixel because when the monitor is turned off it is clearly visible. it is about 2 mm long and 1 pixel wide. Is it possible for a LCD screen to be chipped? I am curious as to what it is.

Chipped, I would not think so, scratched or carved out, yes.

And the sign says "You got to have a membership card to get inside" Huh
So I got me a pen and paper And I made up my own little sign</pre><p></font color=red>

Yes LCDs can chip. The actual TFT and color filter parts are on glass, which can break of course. Most likely your monitor was damaged during shipping or something. Should get a replacement, but hopefully they won't try to say that you did the breaking yourself. Heh.

OK wusy, but I could push harder 😉
I have done this also, and seems to me like a flexible type of plastic to me.
Are some made with glass, some not?

No the stuff is put on glass because that's about the only thing that can take the heat during manufacturing well enough (plastic would melt). LCD projectors use a quartz substrate though because even glass can't stand up to those lamps. For monitors, they just put a soft cover over it at the end, so that it's somewhat resistant to puncture i.e. people's fingers and other damage. Also to somewhat keep the shards from flying if it does break. If you try to jab a pencil (hard) into it you can see it shatter.

Just don't expect them to RMA it for you.
