I read alot that LCD's are supposed to be easier on the eyes but i think its bull-ony. Two freinds of mine work with LCD's and both claim to get hedaches from them. When they come home their CRT seems much easier. Maybe they are using old panels? Anyway, how about some opinions from people who use them on a daily basis. Sorry if this topic has been covered before.

later.

The idea that LCDs are easier on the eyes comes from the fact that they dont refresh the way CRT's do. A low refresh rate on a CRT will allow some users to see a faint flicker in the screen, this is what causes headaches with CRTs. An LCD screen will never flicker in that fashion.

That's not to say you CANT get a headache from an LCD. If you stare at anything long enough it's going to hurt your eyes, and there are alot of other factors as well.

Personally, I've worked alot with both LCD and CRT. While I prefer a good CRT for the work I do, LCD's are damned convenient. Niether, when properly configured, is a strain on my eyes.

I've had it both ways- my current CRT (17" FE791SB @ 1024x768, 116Hz) doesn't gimme a headache, my old 15" @ 85Hz does. When I used to own a TFT7020 and many of my friedn's cheap lcd's, my eyes hurt like hell. Using a Dell 1800FP I feel just fine. Refresh rate is just one factor of many. Fact is that too high a contrast and or brightness will also do it. That's prolly why they don't feel to well, cause LCD's have very high brightness compared to CRT (CRT's max is 100-120CD/M^2 whereas an LCD can go to 250....as a frame of reference, the human eye feels most comfortable at 40)
