why are you running your radeon in 16 bit? it can do 32 bit w/o a fps loss. ati messed up on 16 bit so its no better than 32 bit. try it

Well I heard that under the most traumatic stress (sequences with billions of polygons and extremely graphic intensive applications), the NV20 will be approximately 7 times faster than the GeForce2 Ultra.

At non-graphic extensive stuff it will only be 2 times faster. That leaves a huge gap in which Gaming lies. ooohhh the speeed!

Finally a 256 memory bus. On a 256-bit GPU. It's about time. I hope the new Radeon 2 will run comparably, because ATI has newer technology (which won't amount to much unless they can optimize it). Nice to see technology progress.

The price estimate seems to imply one of two things: 1) the source is overestimating the MSRP, or 2) xbox is going to cost a bundle (2x PS2?). Even if you assume that the 800 is a 100% markup and nvidia only wants to make $50 from m$ft it still puts it at $450 for each xbox. Add on controllers, cpu, dvd drive (regardless of whether its enabled), and memory. Sure they'll sell it at a loss but that still puts the price damn near $500. Yikes! (although that jibes w/ what msft has suggested it would cost, i was hoping for a slight break so that i can get HALO)

Believe it or not, Microsoft released a statement saying that the XBox will cost about $300 when it comes out in fall.

I thought I saw a recent interview (on gamespot?) that quoted them as saying "under $500." That usually implies $449-499 but I could be wrong. I find it very hard to believe that it'll be released at $300 if the nv20 only costs north of $400.

Yes, but remember that game companies customarily eat profits on the hardware, and make it back on the software. It took Sony years to start making a profit on PlayStation hardware sales, so you can expect the ultra-wealthy Microsoft to lose money on hardware in the short term, while planning on a profit for the long term.

Yeah, it's definitely a common biz practice (I referenced it in my last post) but how much can you loss can you swallow. I would guess that all told the cost will be north of $600 to manufacture. A $300 bite into profits seems like a bit much.

the 500MHz ramdac is for 24" monitors in 2002 thatll do 3200x2400x32! they already have 19"s that do 2048x1536, mine for example :) they already have 21"s that do 2400x1800x32 but the video drivers max at 2048x1536

the xbox nv20 will be crippled, just like the geforce2mx is. TVs only run 640x480 anyways so it wont matter

solitare? LOL try quake3 in 3200x2400x32 at 30fps on a 2002 24" monitor :) no more jaggies and FSAA will be obsolete if your monitor isnt already :) my 19" does 2048x1536 so its fine

The Xbox is capable of up to 1920x1080 resolution. It is also able to take advantage of HDTV when running games, something no other console can do. These facts are not coincidence as HDTV provides resolutions of 1280x720 and 1920x1080. Standard TV runs at 700x525 (or 833x625 in Europe). I assume that FSAA is provided at all resolutions as this has been a console standard for years. Now... crippled? Maybe you meant some other Xbox. Note: no TV runs at 640x480. This is a computer resolution only.

Warden

if no TV runs at 640x480, howcome this is the resolution video cards with TV out send to your TV? aka VGA tv out. it lets you play dvds and low res gaming on a huge screen
